How do I open the Barlink database in MS Access 2007? I keep getting error messages about premission denied.
MS removed the workgroup functionality from Ms Access 2007. It is however possible to open the Db with a shortcut like this: "C:Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Program Files\BarLink\database\Barlink2k.mdb" /wrkgrp "C:\Program Files\BarLink\database\secured.mdw" You normally login with LTB_ADMIN and no user. Please note that the database is writeprotected in this mode so you need to work with a copy, and then copy your edited database to barlink2k.mdb. This is not only bad.
Add in Mark tab does not work, error message: This product ABC 123 123 R2D is not missing in current structure. According to conditions set up in LTB_ADMIN>register>product> structure it should work.
Make sure the ABC 123 123 R2D really is active in LTB_ADMIN>register> product, if the product is #IMPORTED# it will not be active by default.
Whats all this with Record types? What is the meaning of the different types?
The serialnumbers You generate for Your Products are reported to Ericsson with the zip-file mailed to the Ericsson central Database - TRACY. The file has more or less one line per serialnumber and the record type is the first character in the line. B- Basic serialnumber information, the mostly used record, one per each new serialnumber S- Structure information, If You connect the serials into logical structures the connections will be reported with S-records. C- Change information, Information about changes on already reported serialnumbers, could for exaple be a revision change on a serialnumber. Z- Scrap individuals or Delete serialnumber. E- Synonym serialnumber information, Extra info as MAC-address etc. (not used on all sites) There are more record-types but the above is the most common ones. (FAQ ref. 2005-12-05A)
I have recieved a new / special layout file from Ericsson but when Im trying to use it, It only prints , , instead of serial number, product name etc.
You have recieved a "generic layout" from Ericsson, such layouts can only be used with
Barlink version 6.3.0 and higher, please upgrade to the latest version!

Why is there a "(S)" on the label as a prefix before the serial number? This happened after I upgraded / changed layotfile.
This is a new standard for the layouts. The (S) is identifying the serialnumber field, it can also be found inside the barcode. (FAQ ref. 2005-12-05C)
Cant start LTB_ADMIN after upgrade from 5.x.x to 6.2.0

LTB_ADMIN starts but closes again after a few seconds. A small window with the text Viking Engine can be seen on the screen.
Unfortunately there may be an error on some installations when starting LTB_ADMIN after upgrading Barlink from version 5.x.x to version 6.2.0. The problem is that the arlinkdata and arlinkprog folders are empty after upgrading, this may have the effect that LTB_ADMIN does not start. The missing files also makes the Viking Engine window visible, normally it should close when LTB_ADMIN is started.

If the folders are empty please copy the files from the CD indata and inprog, also remove the write protection on the files.
The problem is fixed in 6.2.0.2 and higher versions

Barlink - Duplicate Synonym numbers - TRACY complains with a mail with message Errorcode TCE078.
There is no check in Barlink preventing the user to enter the same synonym number on more than one Serialnumber.

If a user makes this mistake TRACY will complain on the reported/mailed outfile with the message TCE078 for the serialnumber with a duplicate synonym.

To prevent this happening, please be careful when entering the synonyms!
An automated check is planned to be implemented in 2006.

Serialnumber field disabled in Mark tab after upgrade. - Cant make structures after upgrading to V6.1.x
It seems like products with structures are not displayed correctly in Mark tab, its not possible to add serialnumbers for the included children, the children are not displayed in the window in the Mark tab

The database has not been properly upgraded, for example the table STRUCTURE should have a column called STRUCTID. The reason is propably insuficient user rights on the database during upgrade.

Fix it like this:
1. Open the database BARLINK2K.MDB in MSAccess.
2. Open table PARAMS and change field DB_VERSION (temporarily) from LTB611 to LTB530
3. Open a DOS window/Command prompt and change directory to Barlinkemp
run the command: "dbfix barlink" (this will upgrade the database tables, table STRUCTURE should now have a column STRUCTID.)
4. Open table PARAMS again and change field DB_VERSION back to LTB611
(In som cases the db_version might be LTB610 an not LTB611)

Batch date shows wrong weekno after 2005
This will only affect labels with batchdate wich is mostly used on older LZF type labels. there are 3 ways to correct this.
1. change selected label to a new n/SVF... type label (wich use YYYYMMDD) date
2. edit the layoutfile, and replace <BATCH> with <MAN_DATE>
3. Upgrade to Barlink V6.1.1.0 or higher, (wich sholud beavaliable via live update ca 20050116

Barlink- Error Message: Label not printed, cant find layoutfile or printername! - Error message when attempting to print labels
If the problem occurs during a "new" installation the printernamne(s) in LTB_ADMIN> REGISTER> PRINTERS is probably not exactly the same as the windows printer names in the controlpanel for the pc, the names should be exactly the same.

If the problem occurs right after upgrading to version 5.3.0 the new layout files was probably not installed.
Please copy the files:
TR1_190_02-LZF_083_255_2_Rev_B.eri
TR2_190_02-LZF_083_204_3_Rev_B.eri
TR2_190_02-LZF_083_255_2_Rev_B.eri
from the installation CD folder inlayout to the layout folder of Your Barlink installation

Barlink - Error message - can´t save this product with serialnumber-
This problem may occur if the drivers for MS Access is not up to date. Try to upgrade the client by installing the latest MDAC, it can be found on the Barlink CD under the menu External programs. (FAQ ref. 2003-12-19)
Barlink - What version of Barlink am I running?

BarLink - Products set up not to have serialnumbers, generates invalid B-records - TRACY complains with a mail with message Errorcode TCE004.
There is a problem with the no serialnumber function in very early versions of Barlink

Versions older than 5.1.1 has this problem. If a product is set up in LTB_Admin to generate no serialnumber a serial will be generated anyway. The generated B-record in the outfile to TRACY will have a invalid serialnumber containing Batch date.
There should be no B-record at all for that product in the outfile.

The TRACY group in might complain on Your outfiles with the message:
Error code : TCE004 "Invalid serial number". and the quoted nuber typically looks like this 200302X99123456(begins with Year digits).

Solution is to upgrade Barlink or to always have the checkbox "Mark individual with serialnumber" checked in LTB_Admin on all products that should be reported.

( FAQ ref. 2003-09-22)
BarLink- Error message - Cant get new number from the system counter - error message when attempting to print new labels.
This message will be displayed when printing labels if the user is logged in to the LTB_MAIN application WITH a password and the user actually is set up in LTB_ADMIN to use NO password at all.

If the error message still remains after logging in without password the problem problably resides in MSAccess user rights. Please check what file the workgroup is connected to, this is done by running WRKGADM.EXE wich is located somwhere in the office files. The workgroup file should be SECURED.MDW in the Barlinkdatabase folder.

The problem may also occur if the drivers for MS Access is not up to date. Try to upgrade the client by installing the latest MDAC, it can be found on the Barlink CD under the menu External programs.

If the problem occurs right after upgrading to version 5.3.0 the database upgrade checkbox was probably not checked in the upgrade dialogue, please run the upgrade again and only check Database upgrade this time.
